I have always
loved jewelry! As a child I would twist my mothers finger to see the
fiery colors fly out of her diamond rings and drape myself in
plastic bead necklaces. I learned to sew and pattern making at a
young age and I would make jewelry from buttons, paper clips,
cardboard or any other found objects! When I finally stepped in
Jewelry 101 at GA State I knew I had found my passion and life's
work! After graduating collage I worked for several years as an art
consultant, learning the business side of art but felt unfulfilled.
I wanted an sign! I decided to enter one of my designs, The
Vertebrae Necklace, in the 2005 Saul Bell Design Award competition
telling myself it if was selected as a finalist then I would start
building a real studio and produce a regular line of work. The
necklace placed 2nd in the silver category and I have kept that
promise to myself. I work primarily in sterling silver but also
dabble in gold using traditional techniques, including mokume gane,
reposse' and lost wax casting, to make modern original designs.
Every collection is titled to give the wearer a glimpse of the
meaning behind the design. Alternative materials have always excited me! Sting ray leather, a by-product of the southeast Asia fishing industry, becomes jewelry in the Shagreen Collection which has been a long lived and successful line. While working in the art consulting industry I saw trash cans full of scrap Plexiglas left over from the framing process. After experimenting and learning how to form the material the Plexi Collection has evolved from flat necklaces to more three-dimensional forms combined with gemstones and precious metals and even into a lighting collection! Custom commissions are available and I love to collaborate to create a one of a kind design! I live in Midtown Atlanta with my boyfriend Steve and my studio is just a few blocks from The Beehive! My lab rottie mix, Hasu, keeps me company and loves when we go swimming or hiking together! I got the travel bug several years ago and have visited seven countries and counting! Steve and I enjoy snowboarding in North Lake Tahoe as well as visiting family and friends in California and Texas . Travel is so inspiring, discovering different cultures and ideas is a major influence in my work. No matter where I go I get excited about returning to the studio to express myself through jewelry! |
