My name is Lindsay Emery and I
am the artist behind Suite One Studio, a handmade porcelain pottery
line. I am most inspired by the contemporary moment and aim to
create objects which reflect modern life. I love this point in
history that we find ourselves living in. There is a delicate
balance between the commercialized, mechanized world and the world
of untamed, wild nature. While the cities are growing there are
places where weeds still grow unrestrained and the land rolls on and
on. I've always lived in places which feel caught completely between these two seemingly different worlds. My work is a fusion of these elements. I love nature and am inspired by the natural world, so I work with soft organic shapes. I often leave parts of the porcelain clay unglazed to expose the natural quality of this refined clay. I have a strong attraction to bright commercial colors influenced by the heavily concentrated, rich, bold inks and pigments of the manufactured world. These radiant hues influence my glaze formulas almost entirely. Suite One Studio represents my interpretation of our world and the objects we touch, need, use and love. Our role as humans living in this moment is particularly fascinating to me. We need objects in our lives to go about our daily tasks, just as humans always have. There is a timeless to my craft which is complemented by this unique experience in time. My pieces are designed to reflect us; all of us in this modern moment, and the things we value. |
